Empowering Young Leaders through Scouting

NYLT focuses on developing strong leadership skills in young Scouts aged 13 to 18 and at least First Class. Scouts will engage in hands-on activities that cultivate teamwork and decision-making abilities essential for future leaders. This fun and engaging program combines exciting outdoor activities, team-building challenges, and personal development. The course is designed to be both challenging and enjoyable, ensuring scouts leave with valuable skills and lasting memories.

The leadership skills and confidence Scouts gain from NYLT will have a lasting impact. Many Scouts who attend NYLT go on to take leadership roles within their troop, district, and even their communities. Attending this program is not just an investment in their Scouting experience but also in their future as a leader in school, work, and life.
NYLT brings together Scouts from different troops, districts, and even councils, creating a diverse and supportive environment for learning and growth. Scouts will have the chance to forge lifelong friendships with peers who share similar values and interests.

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is a course designed to provide youth leaders with the foundational skills and knowledge to effectively lead their units. It focuses on leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving through a variety of engaging activities.
As a leader in your home unit you should have a full Field (Class A) uniform so it is also required for NYLT.
The cost is $295 if paid by the January 15th, 2027. After that the cost goes up to $350. This covers the camping costs for both weekends, food and course materials including two NYLT Course shirts and a hat. Additional shirts can be purchased at registration.
It is highly suggested that you register as soon as possible. The course does get full and once we reach capacity, there is often a wait list. Register early to save $55.
No. The course is broken into patrols and it is unlikely that you will be in the same patrol with your friend, so each of you will need a tent.
You must complete each training session to receive credit for the course. If there is a possibility that you may be late, it should be discussed with the Course Director in advance to see if we can accommodate.
Yes. We can accommodate most food concerns but we do have to know about them! Our meals are fairly basic and we ask that you try them (unless they violate a religious belief or an allergy). We do have substitute foods so no one should go hungry during the course.
Do you know a Scout who would benefit from attending National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)? Send us your referral. Your recommendation could be the spark that helps them grow, lead, and inspire others.
If you have questions about the program, feel free to send us a message. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
